Question related to Reporting Services vs Crystal Report

I am migrating my reports from crystal 8 to reporting services 2005 but before this my client wants answers of following question.Can anybody provide me answer or link related to mentioned question...

1 -Will there be any performance improvement when the same Report (considering big data) is being run with Sql-Server reporting services compared to the one with Crystal report engine?

2- Is it possible to make the labels which are part of Top Palette like “1 of 1”, “Find”, “Next”, “Select a format”, ‘Export” according to the Account language?

3- Can both Versions of Reporting Tools (SQL-Reporting service and Crystal Report) run on the same machine?

4- What are the limitations of this Tools like whether there are any additional load on Database Server because of the involvement of Reporting services which are installed on DB Server.

5- Whether there are additional (to Crystal Report) types of Graph formats, Export file types available?

6- How is the licensing done for SQL-Server Report services?

Please provide me the answers ASAP.

This link might help. It is a white sheet on migrating from CR to RS... http://www.microsoft.com/sql/techinfo/whitepapers/migrate-crystal-to-reporting-services.mspx

We have CR and RS on the same machine and there were no problems.

Hope this helps.

WOndering how someone would get the title of "Sr. Software Engineer, SIEMENS Sr. Software Engineer, SIEMENS " and not be able to do his own homework.

Sounded to me like a school report question.

hey mainiac,

If you are not aware about the things then these type of comments doesn't suits on you.

I am a pure C# and VC++ developer and currently working on three tasks simultaniously.

I am putting fresh hand on CR & RS and due to time constraint I wanted quick & exact

solution of mentioned questions.

If we can save our time by this then i think its good approach...

Although if you are not able to answer such queries then don't waste your time

here by commenting like this because this is Information Sharing Plateform for

all of us.There is no place for you and your comments in this technical word.

I hope you will understand the things.

Take care next time...

Those are basic SQL Server components. You're asking the wrong
question, it's not the components that you need to worry about, it's
where they were installed from. Were they installed from SQL Server
Developer Edition media, or one of the other editions?

http://www.realsqlguy.com|||Our software aquisition folks tell me that they were in the contract as
sub components of SQL Server 2005 Standard and Enterprise Editions.
Does that make sense?
I was told that if one attempted to install SQL Server on a server that
could work. However attempting to install it on a workstation would
only allow the installation of Query Analyzer. So I'm not sure if any
other client tools could be installed that way.
Thanks for the help.

Question on connecting to Oracle

Hello all,

I'm using a OLE DB Connection Manager to Oracle (I've installed the client) and using Oracle Native OLE DB Provider.

The problem was the view In Oracle I'm returning a column that uses a fuction on a numeric field in the the select part of the statement, and by this, the Precition is not displayed when I'm trying to look at the data types of the fields in the view.

The Precision is shown as 0 in the external field part of the component.

I have read the previous post concerning the problem connecting to Oracle Using the Oracle provider, and solved it by using the Microsoft provider, but still I have a question about the oracle provider:

I changed the precision on the External column (from 0 to 15) and also an the Output column, but now I'm getting an error on about error output not matching:

Error 6 Validation error. Data Flow Task: OLE DB Source 1 [8970]: The output column "UPDATE_TIME_NUM" (9333) on the non-error output has no corresponding output column on the error output. Dim_registered_user.dtsx 0 0

I cannot change the error output datatype, cannot delete it or do anything at all.

Is there a way to fix the problem?

This may or may not help you, but I've switch my Oracle connections over to the ADO.NET provider for Oracle. The only side effect is that the resulting data flow is Unicode by default...so all your string data is DT_WSTR instead of DT_STR. You can change that, but it's a manual operation go through all the External Columns and change their type.

I had some weird data issues like you describe above and after poking around the internet came across this article by Donald Farmer (http://www.sqljunkies.com/WebLog/donald_farmer/archive/2005/03/13/8819.aspx). That article explains alot about SSIS Oracle issues.

Question on client side and server side transactions

Hi All,
Is it required to provide BEGIN TRANSACTION...END TRANSACTION block inside
stored procedure, if a client has already started a transaction? The reason,
I am asking this question is that, though an error occured in a stored
procedure which was called within a transaction (on the client side), the
rest of the statements in the stored procedure were executed, which was not
desired.
I am have opened a connection and started a transaction in vb.net and called
a stored procedure. The stored procedure calls several other stored
procedures and adds/updates records in linked tables. It so happened that,
one temporary table did not exist and that particular statement failed when
I
tried to select records from the temporary table. But the following
statements were executed. Why was the transacton not being honoured? Ideally
,
when a statement failed, the transaction should be aborted; this is what I
understand.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
kdThen you have to check for error on your own with the variable @.@.Error.
BEGIN TRANSACTION
<Dosomething>
IF @.@.Error = 0
COMMIT TRANSACTION
ELSE ROLLBACK TRANSACTION

terminate and return... Most, in fact, just set the value of @.@.Error and
continue processing the next statement. If you want the stored Proc t ostop
and return upon encountering an error from a specific statement, you have to
code that yourself, for each statement, by testing the value of @.@.error
immediately after teh statement executes...
Declare @.Err Integer -- At Beginning of SP
/* ******
Other stuff
*********/
<Statement>
Set @.Err = @.@.Error
If @.Err <> 0 Begin
If @.@.TranCount > 0 Rollback
Raiserror('This is message', 16,1)
Return (@.Err)
End
<rest of Stored Proc>

I don't have BEGIN TRANSACTION..END TRANSACTION block in the stored
procedure. I have begun a transcation in the client side in vb.net.
try
connection.Open()
trans = connection.BeginTransaction()
... 'called stored procedure
trans.Commit()
command.Connection.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
trans.Rollback()
End Try
My first question is this. Does the stored procedure and all the other
stored procedures, UDFs, etc called by the stored procedure be part of the
transaction started on the client side?
My second question is, what are the errors that cause a stored procedure to
terminate and return? I could may be dummy code for the errors and check
whether the transaction started at the client is honoured at the server end.

kd
