Question regarding Instance

If I do a default SQL Server installation, and then find that I'd like to
have several instances installed after all, will I be stuck?
Thanks,
- Joe Geretz -
Hi,
When ever you do a new SQL server Installation after a default installation,
The Installation program will identify the old instance
and will create a NEW NAMED INSTANCE automatically.
All the subsequent installation after the default installation the server
name will be "MACHINENAME\<NAME YOU GIVE>"
So no worry, you will never get struck.
Thanks

Question on SQL Server 2000 installation

I am trying to install on SQL Server 2000 on Windows server 2003, web
edition. When I click on autorun, then choose server tools and components and
choose Install Server, nothing happens.
I was wondering if it possible to install SQL Server 2000 on Windows Server
2003 web edition. Is this a compatibility issue?
Thank you.

Question on SQL Server 2000 - 2005

I am a DB2 DBA that has been asked to become familiar enough with SQL
Server in order to become actively involved in its installation,
implementation, and to review database backup/recovery procedures. SQL
Server will be used by a vendor packaged application.

The problem is that we are awaiting word on whether it will be SQL
Server 2000 or 2005 we will be working with. I have been told that
there are considerable differences between the two versions.

There is an upcoming local 5 day class on Administering SQL Server 2000
that I would like to take. (outline below)

Question is, are the differences between the two versions so drastic as
to render this class less than useful, especially in terms of
installation and basic db maintenance functions?

Many thanks in advance.
Gerry

Everything that works in SQL 2000 works in SQL 2005, at least almost. But
SQL 2005 may offer new and better ways that what you learn on the SQL 2000
class.

The one area where the SQL 2000 class may be more confusing than helpful
if you settle on SQL 2005, is installation. The setup program is different,
there are different configuration issues etc.

the training materials for 2005 have not yet been released. At least to

I will certainly do my best to understand the installation differences
between the versions.

Yes. Look at affinity mask.

Note however this does NOT allow you to purchase just one CPU license if you
go that route for licensing.
