question on table structure

All,

On my aspx page i have 2 sets of checkboxlists, each with a number of items and i am storing that info in my db. currently i have my table set up this way:

InfoID--PK auto

UserID-int

CheckBoxList1ID-int

CheckBoxList2ID-int

So a user can select more than 1 item in each checkbox, so this table will contain multiple user-ids and each id from the respective checkboxes. My question is, is there a better way to store this data? I hope this is clear, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I would have a table that holds the values for the checkboxes, and another table that bridges the user table and the checkbox value table. This would only have two fields - the user ID and the selected checkbox ID. This is a better way to manage many-to-many relationships. You would have to iterate through the checkboxes and insert a row for each one the user selected.http://www.mikesdotnetting.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=53

Thanks mike..actually I do have those other 2 tables as well, and I am pretty much doing it like that link you sent, just didn't know if there was a better way. Since thats the way to go, i am happy i don't have to recode..Big Smile . thanks for the response.

Question on table footer

Will the table header row not print on the last page if the only output for
that page is the table footer row? This seems to be that case in my report,
but I would like the table header row to also print. Can this be done? No. The header and footer of a group are siblings. A repeatable header will
be repeated with its children (subgroups or details) not with its siblings.

Question on particular report region layout properties

Hi, all experts here,

Thanks a lot for your kind attention.

I have been trying to adjust the report regions fit into the whole report page. I could see the width and height property of the whole report page from the report property dialogue, but where can I find the width and height for the particular report region like the table? Then I could accordingly adjust the layout of both the report page and report region like table?

Hope my question is clear for your help.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Clicking on the top left corner of the table object, you can see the properties of the table. There should be a Size property that has width and height.

Hope this is what you're looking for.

cheers,

Andrew

Hi, Andrew,

Thanks a lot for your kind suggestion.

Yes, I clicked on the left corner of the table and the table property dialogue box appeared, but there is no size property there.

Any futher advices? I am looking forward to hearing from you further shortly.

Thanks a lot again.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Did you click twice & hit F4 to see the properties window? That is strange. You can also click anywhere on the report and hit tab to cycle through the controls, or hit F4 to view the properties window and select the table from the drop down list.

cheers,

Andrew

Question on dynamic sorting

Hi,
I am trying to implement dynamic sorting using Reporting Services. I have 3
dropdowns on a page which contain the list of fields returned by a
stored procedure. What I am doing is creating the <Sorting> tag and its
children dynamically based on the sort the user selected. Then I am loading
the report definition (.rdl) into an Xml doc and I am adding the dynamically
created <Sorting> string to the doc at the appropriate location in the
document as if I had added sorting to the report using the Visual Studio IDE.
Then I turn the Xml doc into Byte[] and I am using this updated Byte[] array
to update the report definition. The problem is when I render the report
using the Render method, sorting does not take place as if the original .rdl
is used instead of the one I updated? Is there a way to dynamically deploy
the updated report definition? Is caching the culprit? Am I missing a step?
Is there a simpler way to implement dynamic sorting using RS?
Thanks muchyou could use the parameter "value" to drive the sorting for your table or
list. Under the sort properties, use =Fields(Parameters!SortBy.Value).Value
to have dynamic sorting.

Question on data optimizations

The database maintenance plan wizards present the ability to do either
data/index page reorgs or update statistics.
Is there any reason you can't do both?
Is it because an update of the statistics is automatically done on a
reorg?
Thanks in advance.

When SQL Server rebuild indexes ,statistics ares automatically to be
updated
